History

Roots of the brand are traced back to the town of Leuven on the border of Flanders and Wallonia. 1366 is the earliest note of «Den Horen» brewery where from Stella Artois® originates. This year is considered the birth date of the brand.

In 1708, Sebastian Artois received the title of a brewmaster . In 1717, he bought «Den Horen» and gave it his own name — «Artois Brewery». Sebastian’s descendants continued his work successfully.

Pride of Belgium truly sparkled around Christmas of 1926. Artois experts made a special brew for the holiday. It was a clear beverage, as bright as a star («stella» is Latin for «star»). That is how Stella Artois® received its name.

The old building of «Artois Brewery» is a national monument at the present time.
