Past and Present
Klin Brewery was built in 1975 shortly after discovery of a source of artesian water near Klin. Geologists and brewers agreed that this naturally clear water was perfect for making beer. The nominal capacity was estimated as 0.4 mln dal a year.
In the early 1980s, a group of brewers from Klin visited a twin town Beneshov in Czechoslovakia, a country widely recognized for its brewing traditions. The purpose of the visit was training and exchange of knowledge. Klin brewers discovered enormous variety of beers, which was unusual for Soviet brewing industry. They also noted that almost every brewery produced a brand of its own. And Klin brewers decided to create an original beer. Upon the return they made several trial brews and chose a proper recipe.
Klinskoye quickly gained popularity among beer lovers. In mid-80s, Klin Brewery was included in «The Golden Book of Honour» of the Ministry of Food Industry of the Russian Federation.
Klin brewery was reorganized into a closed joint stock company in 1992. After that the investments for reconstruction and modernisation were drawn. As a result, the geography of distribution has substantially expanded. Klin brewers worked on broadening the product range: there appeared Klinskoye Svetloe, Klinskoye Spetsialnoye, Klinskoye Temnoye, Staroe Yamskoye, Radonitsa. The logo, label and company style were redesigned.
In 1998, the brewery introduced 0.33l glass bottles for Klinskoye Zolotoye, Klinskoye Lux and Klinskoye Prestizhnoye.
In 1999, Klin Brewery became a part of SUN InBev (since May 2003 - as part of its daughter company OAO United Breweries). By 2001, a new production facility was launched. It is equipped with the most up-to-date Belgian and German machinery.
Being part of SUN InBev has brought to Klin brewery not just the investments, but also dramatic changes in production and marketing, as well as integration into a well-run distribution system.
In 2001, Klinskoye held a 4% share in the Russian market and 13% in Moscow.
Today Klin brewery has reached the level of the best European breweries, and its modernisation and expansion are continuing.
