Past and Present

Construction of Saransk Brewery began in the middle of 1970s. The first brew was completed on December 27, 1985. The launch of Saransk Brewery coincided with the start of an anti-alcoholic campaign in the USSR, therefore the capacities of the enterprise were not fully used for a long time.

In the beginning of 1990s, Saransk Brewery was transformed into closed joint stock company - ZAO Saransk Brewery.

Saransk Brewery joined SUN Brewing in 1993 and became an integral part of SUN InBev in 1999 (since March 2003 as Saransk affiliate JSC “SUN InBev”).

In March 2002, the reconstruction of the brewhouse was completed. Its upgrading as well as better raw materials usage enabled Saransk brewers to achieve the European level of the product quality.

In August 2002, SUN InBev and the Government of Mordovian Republic signed an investment agreement that provided for installation of a new PЕТ-line. The line was put into operation in April 2003.

In October 2004,  SUN InBev began construction of a new malt house and reconstruction of the existing malting facility. The total investments amount to more than € 20 million. The project is to be completed in the 3rd quarter of 2005 and the malt house  will produce some 140 thousand tons of malt per year.

At the end of 2004, a CCT department was put into operation increasing the brewery’s capacity by 40% and allowing to introduce a more modern technology of wort fermentation and to produce more beer of better quality. John F. Brock, CEO of InBev, #1 global brewer, participated in the opening ceremony. John F.Brock  had a meeting with Nikolay Merkushkin, the Head of Mordovian Republic, as a result of which a social and economic collaboration agreement on development of malt and beer production in Mordovia was signed.

Quality is the top priority of Saransk brewers. The Belgian Institute of Brewing together with InBev’s experts marked Saransk brewers’ achievements in ensuring high quality with the Quality Award 2004 for the best performance. The Saransk brewery has become the first brewery among SUN InBev’s Russian production sites to receive this award.
